It's always been a favorite book of mine. I've probably read it a dozen times and it never fails to intrigue me. Especially the history of the trail. The movie was good but not anything compared to the book. I liked Redford and Nolte but would have rather seen this made about 10 years ago with Giamatti and Seymour Hoffman.

I read the book in prison in one day it was so funny. I haven't seen this yet but I can't imagine it being nearly as laugh out loud funny as the book.
