How many miles per day?

According to Wikipedia, they hiked about 800 miles before stopping (movie) in southern Pennsylvania, and this took a bit over 3 months. The 800 estimate includes gaps where they left the trail. Thus, an average of roughly 8 miles per days seems a reasonable estimate. In the book, they resumed again in an attempt to hike the final portion of the trail in Maine.

Thanks. I did a little over 16 miles on a local trail Saturday and screwed up my foot.

16 miles is the most I ever hiked in a day (from the valley floor in Yosemite to the top of Half Dome and back), and I was totally spent.
