How good was the 2024 version of "Mean Girls"?
I plan on watching it when it comes out on DVD
shareI haven't seen the movie yet, as I plan to watch it when it comes to home viewing, but if they've kept the songs the same, and the singers are decent, it is a really vocally impressive show. I know it's not the stage version, but I found the stage show funnier than the 2004 movie. So I'm hoping it's half as good.
share2024 didn't land anywhere near 2004.
some examples:
-Regina is already thick in this one.. so she gains weight from the snack bars.. OK nobody noticed and the joke failed
-the "homey" redhead is hotter than Regina
-classic Brutus speech is absent
-every scene with strobe lights and tiktok overlays made me seasick
-plastic girls looked below average and nowhere near the godly status of '04
-not enough Jon Hamm
etc.
I was just about to waste $10 and 2 hours on this. Thanks for saving me the trouble Bob.
shareI have to surprisingly confirm all, maybe except the tiktok stuff, I can handle that part.
The plastics definitely not looked good enough to be authentic. They should at least make some jokes about plastic surgery.
And ALL of them were way too old. I thought Hollywood gave up on the college seniors in High School movies in the 2010s. Putting one of the Spider-Man cast in the main role 7 years after the first movie shows some balls. Also when I really enjoyed Jaquel Spivey in his role, putting a 25 year old person in this, which easily can pass a 30yo, was a travesty. But after checking, even Christopher Briney is 25 yo and he has not even the excuse of singing. So this was all cast on purpose so old? Crazy.
I have seen the movie now and I really liked it. I love musicals though like I've said. I did think that the movie was no where as good as the stage show, but for what it is, I thought it was decent. The songs were overly processed, and no where near enough dancing for me, but I enjoyed it a lot.
share6/10, original 6.5/10
have fun
