As "Gone Girl" was written and filmed later, I assume the author from the novel "Gone Girl" must have watched "All Good Things" and got inspired by it.
I'm just about finished with watching "All Good Things" and it immediately reminds me of "Gone Girl" which we watched one or two years ago.
This one is a bit better.
I was wondering if other imdb members noticed the similarities as well?
I really see few similarities other than in both stories there is a troubled marriage. We never see the husband in Gone Girl murder anyone, kill his dog, pull his wife by her hair or live in drag as a woman. Perhaps I'm being redundant on the last part of the preceding sentence. Plus the missing wife returns unscathed in Gone Girl. She's still missing in All Good Things, presumably really dead.
Totally agree though. All Good Things is a much better film.

I agree with everything except your last sentence/paragraph lol! Even though the two films are remotely not as similar, this movie was decent, but not as good as gone girl (just imo).
shareI thought the story of "Gone Girl" was inspired by the Laci and Scott Peterson case, which did involve a missing wife, but other than that not many similarities.
Scott Peterson didn't seem to openly exhibit odd behavior, and wasn't implicated in other murders, like the character in "All Good Things," which was inspired by the case of Robert Durst. Here is a synopsis of the Robert Durst story, which actually pretty much is followed closely by this movie.
