Is this another recruitment, pro-military propaganda thing?
Like that Jack Ryan show? Or top gun?
shareLike that Jack Ryan show? Or top gun?
shareNope. I did not think so. Alot of the bad guys are in the military in high positions.
shareNo, I think this is more of a standard corporate media propaganda type of show. The reason I say that is because in corporate propaganda an evil/incompetent/untrustworthy government figure, especially a politician, is quite common. The message is that government and politicians can not be trusted, "free & independent" media have to be there to keep them in check.
I think mostly because even money is fundamental in elections, but once elected there are few years politicians can't be fully controlled, it becomes a partnership. Media are the essential tools to control those politicians.
I think that is why the heads of government in liberal democracies rarely have approval ratings over 60%, once they reach that media usually start their smear campaigns, ironically a politician too popular is not good for democracy, at least not for liberal democracy.
Anyway the rest is standard stuff, support overseas wars, because that is good for media as well. Without US military there would not have been global media giants.
Of course these days propaganda about China is standard as well. Deng was praised as a great reformer, now he is the reason why China became so strong, they finally remembered it all started with him, it was his fault.
Unless China falls they can't own Chinese media, so that is the media doing it for themselves. The country where US media giants could not buy and control media are where the evil resides, usually that is what US media giants say.
Absolutely not.
And I started watching this right after I quit watching Jack Ryan 22 minutes into its pilot episode.
It does however show a journalist in a positive light, and some law enforcement as not completely evil though.
Think who has ever been telling you "free & independent" media is essential? It has always been the media.
shareI understand that many movies and shows are made with close cooperation with the military's media liaison office. I can still enjoy movies and shows like "Generation Kill", just like how I can enjoy "Stargate SG-1" as examples of shows that made no vs the max (read: not "free & independent") amount of military propaganda involvement.
