Foreign Language Oscar - Revanche is on the short-list

There were 67 entries for this category and 9 are still in the competition for the best movie of the year in a foreign language. Revanche is one of them. That is something! Last years winner was the Austrian movie "The Counterfeiters", that is one of the reasons why I have great doubts that "Revanche" has a real chance to win the Oscar. An another reason is that it is not about the crimes of the Nazis... I also think, that "Waltz with Beshir" is the big favorite.
But a nomination should be possible. Revanche is a great movie, and it would really deserve it. It will come out in the States, Germany and France very soon. A nomination would be also a great support for the promotion of the movie.

so must every austrian movie have "nazi" content in them to get an oscar?

reply

@Batpan

I would say, that it helps a lot.

reply

don't get me wrong, i also don't believe that it will get the foreign language oscar, but tho say that austrian movie are only oscarworthy if they are ww2 themed is just hypocritical and cliched. the best austrian movies are (in my faithful opinion, of course) those which have a more down-to-earth story. the real appeal of the austrian cinema lies in the character driven, tragic comedies. but then again, the best austrian movies aren't really oscar material. it's so ironical.

this film DESERVES accolades.
it is better than bashir.

reply

Agreed. This movie was good.
It would have been better though if Alex wasn't chopping wood for half the movie.

reply

Ok, I must admit I've only seen the trailer so far, but this film doesn't look that extraordinary to me. I would have preferred "For a Moment Freedom" (Ein Augenblick Freiheit) to be nominated, which is not typically Austrian, but a wonderful film. Why wasn't it nominated? Is it forbidden to have 2 films of the same country?

The wood chopping keeps coming back to me when I think of the movie.
I liked it.
It made the whole movie feel more organic.

Saving Private Bashir wins because America loves true stories, they don't want to see thrillers, comedies, horrors in the oscars, except when people cry like little b*tches like they do for The Lord of the Geeks part III. It's no way near an oscar worthy movie !

Last Movies:- Taken - 4/5
- The Wrestler - 5/5
- W. - 3/5
