I thought House of the Devil worth my time, but I noticed things that were clearly influenced by other films.
"Halloween" -- sense of dread and 80s feel
"Psycho" -- startling, creepy string music
"Suspiria" -- girl drugged before satanic ceremony, and lots of weird-a$$ camera work
"Carrie" -- girl covered almost completely in blood

The Exorcist - flashes of paranormal beings on screen for split seconds

The music reminded me more of The Shining than Psycho.
