"Thanks for your time, Joyce. Just between the two of us? You can probably skip the Diet Cokes. They're not helping you."
Love it, love it, love it !!! :)))
PS: btw, what degree did Joyce hold? just asking. who is she to think that an MBA isn't qualified enough... ... better if he said: "stick that can of coke up your A** lovely Joyce!"
You are missing the point. Companies hiring know the economy is bad and there is a glut of people that are qualified looking for a job. You call someone in, tell them, I have another job for you which is lower level. If you are about to lose your home, your car has been taken by the repo man, etc., then they think you can't turn down an offer. The companies are bargain shopping when it comes to hiring.
During the dot-com insanity it was a seller's market and companies would lower their qualifications for jobs because they needed to fill them.
It has nothing to do that he has an MBA or great track record. They want him to take the $65k job in another state because they have problems filling that one.
i believe the point of that scene is to show how bad the 'headhunter' approach is...
what headhunters often do is PREVENT the one who wants to get hired from contacting the company directly... and so Affleck must bypass this lady who has no idea about the job... and she basically tells him that the job he waited in the lobby for 2 hours for is not one she was going to put him up for because she already have filled her quota of people to send them... never mind that Affleck might be the BEST candidate... he's never get a chance to prove it since SHE won't let him!
i know... i've been there... and i've alienated myself from few headhunters because i told them exactly how i felt about it...
