Did Anyone Else...

fall asleep during the first half of the movie and then wake up during the spider fight and watch and enjoy the second half of the movie? It seriously seemed like almost everyone in the theater, including my husband and friends, kept dozing off or slept during the first half.

I think they just dragged the book out too much, so each movie had very long parts that seemed boring and then parts that were awesome. I like the book, but Hollywood usually always ruins the magic.

The Spider scene actually comes in at the 30 minute mark, so it's nowhere near half of the movie. But I agree with you about the film really getting into gear after the spider scene. I also remember people in my theater being like "yeah whatever" for the first 20 minutes, only to get really into it after the Spider scene.

Raging Bull = Best movie

The movie is a series of tedious repetitions: running through some epic surroundings, let those surroundings get destroyed, over and over again. The content of this movie would easily have fit into 90 minutes and the result would have been better.

I really enjoyed the spider scene...seeing Bilbo name his sword "Sting" after killing that spider and then see him viciously slay another spider to get back the ring was very enjoyable but I felt like the whole mirkwood forest was rushed like many other scenes in the movie.

You must have a short attention span.
