Fan That Gave Telemarketing Job

What kind of fan is that? He gives Lips a job? If he's a real fan he gives him the money!

i just randomly met him at a wolfmother concert last night lol. nice person.

reply

I disagree. Giving someone a job is better than giving him money.

reply

He could've invested in the album, instead of just giving the money.

But I also think this part was at least partially staged.

Because, it was probably staged for the sake of the "documentary."

^ This.

You were sick, but now you're well, and there's work to do

Did anybody else laugh when they saw the "A.B.C. - Always Be Closing" print out at Lips cubicle.

reply

Nice. Alec Baldwin always comes to mind when I see that.

But yeah, some parts of this movie were really uncomfortable and watching Lips failing miserably at that telemarketing job was one of them.

Just saw this movie - it's not funny like This Is Spinal Tap but is quite moving

You're right about it being uncomfortable and I don't think that Lips really failed - you have to be a psycho to make it in that kind of job !

And, like one of the other posters, I initially also thought that The Fan was a bit sh!tty not investing in the band, but then one shouldn't make hasty judgements about people - he just wanted to help out in some way.

What struck me, though, was at the end of the movie when Slash says there are only a few bands who've stuck together for 30 years, and mentioned The Stones, The Who and Anvil but he *didn't* say that the first two have spent most of those 30(+) years sipping cocktails in their massive mansions and having a pretty easy time of it. There must be a lot of other bands out there still slogging away decades after a minor success because they just love what they're doing and it's so important to them.

All power to their collective elbow !

With everyone having call display these days I don't know how telemarketers make any money at all.

That was a crappy job. That guy didn't do Lips a favor. I get the impression that place is constantly hiring and firing people.

I wondered why Lips didn't get a day job that was music related like working in a music store, teaching guitar or working as a guitar tech.

reply

He did him a favor. He gave him what he could. I love people saying the guy should have invested in the album... Did he look like he had a s(*t-tn of money? He didn't to me. He looked like a guy who was trying to make it on a daily basis, and loved the band, and did what he could to help. Granted, it wasn't a great job, but if you've ever been out of a job, you know that ANYTHING is a big help. And like Lips said, he thought that maybe the character would take over and he'd be great at it. Who knows. The guy did what he could. The thought is what counts, really...
