Were they really that influential?

Watching several music documentaries, such as Rodriguez, i have the feeling that they try to make the band more important than they are. I was only listening to the charts at the time of their first albums, so I cant really tell whether the credit that is given to Anvil is justified or not.

So my question is: were they really so influential on other bands? Were they really such innovators in metal? (or trash metal)

reply

No way near as influential as the documentary made them out to be. They were an average band.

They were extremely influential. Whether you like them or not, what they were doing in 1981 was very much ahead of their time. The drumming alone isnt something we had heard before or would hear until several years later. Even their metal thrash sound inspired the entire thrash and speed scene of the early 80's.

Although he had to think some to prove it,.. Lars,Ulrich did talk for 30 mins. about how important they really were to the next level that came just after them.
