What other bands need a movie?

After having watched the film and listening to more of the music (as a fan of metal, mind you) I cannot believe I skipped over these guys! They definitely deserve some type of following at least on the level of say....Accept, Saxon or Manowar, if not larger.

And now to my question: What bands could benefit from having a movie made about them? Some bands are fairly big as is, but could get blown into the stratosphere with a documentary as popular as this one. I doubt that most of them would be as sympathetic and touching, but here is a short list I compiled:

-Annihilator (these guys are Canadian too. How they fell under the radar is anyone's guess.)
-Motorhead (Okay, a huge name in metal, but come on...who wouldn't want to watch a documentary thats follows Lemmy?)
-Overkill (My favorite band ever. They already technically have one documentary about them called "Born in the Basement" and another short one that came with a concert DVD. But they're a thrash band that has been around since at least 1980, and has released 14-15 albums that are all thrash and all sound like Overkill)
-Testament (Many people have said that if they could configure the top 4 thrash bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) they would remove Anthrax and replace them with Testament.)
-Venom (Big name in metal, but essentially responsible for starting black metal. Also deeply responsible for thrash and death metal. They too have been around 30 plus years.)

Many bands could have a movie made about them, but few would be as personal as Anvil's.

Although a pretty recent band, and fall into the punk phase, a very underrated band by the name of The Exploding Hearts would make a fantasticly emotional and engaging documentary. Their careers where cut short after only one studio album and one posthumous compilation because of a tragic car accident which caused the death of three of the four members in the band. It's a shame because they could have been the revival of real punk music. I think if done right, it could be one of the most powerful music documentaries ever made.

As much as I am not really a huge fan of Metal (I used to buy Purple,Lizzy and Zep many years ago but now prefer something a little more cerebral), this documentary fascinated me. The band just deserve to gain fame just because of their belief in what they are doing. The drummer is definitely the star for me- a great musician. Lots of my friends are what people would call "failed musos". That is totally the wrong description of these guys they are successful because they did what they loved. They maybe never made a living but they made a lot of great music.
Anvil have great heart and need the break that I think this film has given them.
No other bands can do this now-it has been done. I am certain that others will try.

Since you didn't state metal, I'd like a movie about Spirit, the 60's band that should have been huge. Read about them on Wiki. (Randy California asked to join Hendrix before he went to England and made it big. He was only 15, and his mother wouldn't let him! Led Zep used to open for them, and Jimmy Page stole one of their songs and made 'stairway' out of it...) Many incredible stories!

That would be an amazing movie. Best to focus on Randy and Ed. I love Spirit so much.

I think the BEST biopic/docu would be Frank Marino - following him from a youngster taking an overdose, his rapid ability to learn guitar, the press lies about being the 'reincarnation of Hendrix' which all but destroyed his career. He is one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived and outside of the guitar fraternity, nobody knows about it. He is also a really REALLY nice guy. I have had the pleasure of meeting him more than once and he is a gentleman who has every right to be bitter, but never shows it. A family man with staggering talent.

The Monochrome Set.

I'd like to see a film about Television (Tom Verlaine's band) too, if anyone would care to make one.

Incidentally, there is a film about Lemmy - screened at the London Film Festival this year, although I didn't see it.

And there was a BBC documentary about Mark E Smith which was re-screened recently.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

Tons of great 80s-90s bands now languishing in the Where Are They Now files. My top picks would be:

#1. Big Country - Great UK band with a dramatic story. Big hit in the 80s, then obscurity. The lead singer had a habit of disappearing for months at a time. A few years ago he vanished again, and the band issued a global plea to all the fans to help find him. They found him dead in a Hawaii hotel a few months later, apparent suicide.

#2. Extreme - one of the most solid rock/metal bands to come out of the 90s. First 2 albums were killer, the next album was even better but somehow they just didn't fly far. The Van Halen thing sorta killed them (as well as Van Halen), but I hear they're back in action.

#3. The Fixx - Going strong after 30 years even though the music industry doesn't seem to notice.

#4. Jellyfish - pure talent. 2 solid albums, a lot of promise, then sudden disappearance off the face of the earth. Wha' happen?

I am a HUGE fan of Anvil and thats what makes me want to see every band doc out there. I know this may be more along the line of mockumentary but one movie that looks hilariously good that comes out soon is FUBAR Balls to the Wall (sequel to Fubar that looks a lot like Spinal Tap). I can't wait to see it! The trailer looks like absolute chaos!!!! http://www.facebook.com/fubarballstothewall

How about Budgie? They're sort of a Welsh Anvil, although they were a bit more successful at their "peak". Both Mettalica and Van Halen have covered their songs.
