How are they all doing now?

I just finished rewatching the documentary, listened to the Metal on Metal album like yesterday and rewatched their Tonight Show appearance.

Lips said that they had quit their day jobs by that point and were about to tour. Of course, it's been a few years and a few Tonight Shows since then and I'm wondering if anybody knows how Lips and Robb are doing.

Not really. Not quite sure about other cities in the world, but here in Toronto, they are playing the same old dives they always have been all these years. There was a spike of popularity when the movie came out, but that died pretty quickly.

A friend of mine is in a metal band (Hooga) that opens for several bands that pass through Salt Lake City. They opened for Anvil in a club about a year ago and he says the crowd was only about 150 ppl.

Yup, their 5 minutes of fame lasted pretty much from the end of 2008 and all through 2009, where they played Donington (Download Festival) and then opened for Saxon and ACDC and then that was it. They are back to where they were before the movie was released.

Pretty much all of their stuff is on Spotify so even without the money and fame,.... They totally made it a long time ago.

Anvil are UDO's special guest on his 2016 tour, so they are still playing.

I have tickets, and will see Anvil for the first time in 10 days from now. :)

While the movie as someone previously said, only gave them 5 mins of fame, they are definitely doing better than they were during their 'obscure years before the documentary gave them a bit of momentum and some decent contacts.

The difference now is they have retained better management and booking agents, so they are able to tour and gig in a properly organised fashion. So, you play to 150 ppl - yes it doesn't sound like a lot - but if it's 150 people in a 250 capacity venue and a third of them buy a t shirt, do 20-30 gigs like that in a row and you ain't going to be rich but you're making enough to keep going.

I agree. It was not 5 mins of fame at all, because they have been alot in media and as late as in 2016.
They are currently still playing on their 50 city tour in Europe 2016. They still have atleast 20 cities left i think.
I was on the show #1 out of all 50, and they were having alot of fun on stage and as fresh and funny as always.
I bought Anvil t-Shirt of course in february. :)

They play for probably 1000 too now on some venues, because of UDO.
When UDO plays about 2 hours and 15 mins with Accept classics for the last time is one thing to attract people, but Anvil as special guest also attract people.
Anvil played for nearly 40 years, and who ignores their playing before UDO?

On this UDO/Anvil tour, UDO will record a Blu-Ray/DVD on a bigger venue in Germany i think it was, so Anvil will play for the same bunch of people.

Anvil started tour with playing 5 cities in Norway. What i didn't know was they Anvil alone as "headliner" played in 4-5 cities alone in Norway.
I guess they didn't know that they had loads of fans here.

Their new song "Daggers & Rum" was inspired by Vikings, and i'm sure it was made because of their 2014 tour here.
Anvil even played in a venue this year near same place as "Kattegat" in the popular Vikings TV series.
