uh question

In the scene where they're at the grocery store when they first meet little rock and witchita, why the hell would he prop the door open, wouldn't that just be a way for zombies to get in therefore less safe?

I had the same thought seeming that part. I'm guessing it was to make it that much easier to open. With the box holding the door open you can push anywhere to open it, no box and you have a much smaller area to aim for.

I think it was for one of the rules relating to always having an escape route or something to that effect. He wanted to know how to get out of there if needed and he thought propping the door open would make it easier if they needed to escape quickly.

But even knowing that, every time I watch the movie I always think the same as you i.e. it makes it easier for a zombie to wander in and surprise them making it less safe.

When I first saw the movie I thought that a zombie would have wandered in surprising them to show that the rules need to evolve as time goes on, and that in the end his rules actually caused them to be in danger so the rules had to be strengthened, etc.... but I guess not.

It is a case of his anxiety and silly fears working against, instead of for, him.
YOU WOULD NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR UNTIL 100% FOR SURE YOU HAD TO.
It might sound an alarm and attract attention. There could be 100 zombies standing outside the door when you open it. You could open it, look outside and see nothing; then leave it propped open walk away and have zombies come storming right in behind you. Not to mention other people who could be in the area and be very mean and heavily armed.
