'Old' footage

Hey guys,

This is baffling me, were the old practice footage before the main event, reenacted and shot as to appear old?

I completely bought it the first time, but later i was thinking: there is no way they shot themselves practicing wire walking 30 yrs ago?

What about walking the wire in Sydney? was that real footage or what?

Much of it was old footage. The stuff with him practicing, talking it over with his accomplices, and walking the wire in Sydney, that was actual footage. The black and white video segments were reinactments of the story with actors. They did have a camera back then that captured many of the moments, so you are seeing a lot of rare footage that was used for the film.
