a lot of you have been mentioning the picture of the towers with the plane flying above, or the mention of security being easy to bypass,

but the reference that struck me most was when they show a shot of the Admission pass for Phillipe to the trade centres, and this image is held for a few seconds and it zooms in and in the top corner you can see written in ink "permanent"

did anyone else pick up on this? and are there any others (accidental or intended) that i may have missed?

hmm cant really remember now...i think probably the irony of it saying permanent on the pass when now these buildings do not exist.

u have to see it in film to feel it really...

If there is any reference to the 9/11 attacks, it is purely accidental.

They deliberately avoided saying anything about 9/11 so the focus was on his art, his feat and not the buildings. That place would go on to be the site of horrific events, that is totally irrelevant, that wasn't until 30 years later.

It wasn't about the building, it was about his actions and nothing more.

The footage of the reporter on the street doing his report about the wire stunt looks like it is filmed from/ on the same street and virtually the same spot from where the Naudet brothers filmed the first plane impact in 2001.

It is!

I didn't see ANY references to 9/11 in the documentary. I mean it was almost intentional, I think the filmmakers were very sensitive about it & really tried not to make any faux pas. The only thing that struck me was the plane going overhead & how huge it was in the photo taken from the ground looking up at Phillipe mid-way across the wire. That was it.

I personal don't think there are of ANY reference to 9/11.
This is a story about a man who achieves his dream to walk above the world.
"Permanent" is - although he did it illegally, he is given the deserved respect. Audience don't have to pick up on it, its there for you... emphasized with a zoom, and followed by pictures of him on the roof again and signing his name on the wall. He is indeed given unlimited permanent pass to the top of the towers.
If you feel that's ironic cuz its no longer permanent, then its your feeling, and im sure a lot of others too. But its not to specifically reference 9 11.

Whenever they showed a photo of one or both of the towers, I was like, "There's a reference to 9/11."

I was actually surprised how difficult the security was back then to get by and that they had guards on duty on the upper floors all night. They needed fake ID's and disguise and it still wasn't easy IMO. They didn't succeed at first try.
