What's the deal with the hate for firemen?

What's that all about? It's not a funny profession to trash on. I just don't get the joke...

I found the irony of fire trucks constantly pulling up with flashing lights and loud sirens with firemen looking for the characters as opposed to police to be pretty funny. How often do you see firemen used that way in movies? I don't see it as "hate" for firemen.
