[Spoilers] Merritt's situation

I had a super hard time buying into Merritt's situation. I don't think they said what she did for money, but she came off as an affluent socialite type (even if there was no big money behind her).

I seriously doubt a woman of her sophistication is going to risk a pregnancy with her best friend's future father-in-law. Such an affair is so radioactive to begin with that she's not going with "oh, and maybe it'll work out if I get pregnant." She probably has a whole section of a bathroom drawer devoted to Plan B packages.

I can buy her sleeping with him and *maybe* even losing to the short odds and getting knocked up, but in no way is she going to indulge in some Cinderella fantasy that her best friend's father in law is going to leave his high intensity book author wife to be her babydaddy.

The boohoo she indulges in when Tag starts suggesting *mayyybee* she should have an abortion just isn't believable. A real Merritt-type woman is going to be slotting herself into the first clinic appointment she can get and *not* telling Tag at all.

There is a scene where Amelia (don't remember who she is talking to, but probably the pregnant one Dakota Fanning / Abby) states that Merritt doesn't actually sleep with many men. She says "you lose your power". So for her to get pregnant is a big deal, and it was most likely an unplanned accident.

Men lie to keep that young, beautiful hottie in bed, and yeah she got taken pretty good here. He was a good liar.
