It's 2009, but could easily have been written and made in 2003.
From the fashion (one guy has dyed blonde hair, cool at the turn of the century), edgy youth dialogue like calling a mom a MILF, to a finale taking place in a 3D cinema (now no longer that common with the demise of 3D).
It feels so 2000s it's crazy.
Oh and the edgy rock as the credits rolled.
So 2000s.
I think Friday the 13th (2009), My Bloody Valentine (2009) & Piranha 3D (2010) also encapsulate the time period. Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) is one of the last entries into this kind of horror film.
You just don't see many films like these anymore. Made for the fans, trying their best to be entertaining and gorey, not concerned with critical perception.
Nowadays we have the dry PG scare fests (Jump scares with little violence or gore. No nudity). Or the hipster 'elevated horror' which so desperately wants to be a critical darling and some cinema-buffs fall line, hook and sinker for it.
