For those of you having problems with the PC version

I tried to get this running on my home PC (cutting edge spec last year when I built it, upper average by current standards) and the game was so choppy even on the menu screen it was totally unplayable. Here is what I found:-

First thing I did was look for a patch, it turns out there isn't one and most forum postings are having a real go at Atari for basically abandoning the people who bought the PC version and there do seem to be quite a few that are having problems. One suggestion I saw was to assign the priority to the game as low (right click on properties in task manager once the game starts), I tried that and I could actually get the game to start fine and then as soon as the opening scene kicked in it was back to the same as before with the game stuttering so badly I gave up in disgust.

However, I then found out that I couldn't run any of my F.E.A.R. games or their add ons - even the Steam version of F.E.A.R.2, all I got was a black screen and the games locked up. I know for a fact they did run just fine fairly recently so there must have been something recently added that was bu****ing things up.

After rummaging about on their forums and trying a few suggestions that didn't work I found a post saying that some versions of the codecs programs would interfere with the way the games initialised and give you a black screen followed by a lock up.

Since I only added the codecs to watch DVD's on my PC, I ditched the program and bingo all F.E.A.R. games were magically working again. Out of curiosity I tried Ghostbusters again and its working just fine!

Feel free to try this if you are having a problem, I can pass on the other suggestions I tried to get the F.E.A.R. games running and you can try them if you wish.

Dude.. In a nutshell most people complaining about the pc version are a running a pirated version of the game off torrent sites.

The reason being is that the game has been created with anti-piracy in mind by Atari. Everyone who got the pirated version have a poor crack that was done by " VITALITY ".

They need to get the " RELOADED " crack, why ?

The vitality crack makes certain enemys impossible to destroy. One enemy I have heard about is the candle sticks in the Sedgewick hotel coming at you by the half a dozen each time, and then you get wasted no matter how hard you try to fight them off.

With the reloaded crack you will find those candle sticks and other enemys easy to kill with a quick blast of the proton pack, just like on the consoles. I also hear the frame rate improves also with this crack.

Not that I have a pirated version, but the " RELOADED " crack is on torrent for download, and takes a minute to download.....

To be honest, the pc version is so weak that I cant blame anyone who dowloads it illegaly anyway. Having the game I wished now that I had downloaded it off a torrent site, because Atari have left pc gamers right in the dirty ass toilet !

It's available on Steam for about £7 (around $13 US).
