Wouldn't it be funny if the Rookie's name was
Hoss Rookie?
"Leave and never darken my towels again!"

It wouldn't make sense. After all, who in the hell would give their kid a Canadian term for loser for a first name? And it'd just be stupid & lazy if his last name really was Rookie.
"Greetings! This is not God, but his close friend, Officer Boscorelli. Please pull over."- Bosco
Ben Cartwright.
Plotholes are like Bigfoot, people who claim to see them are just trying to stir things up.

A Canadian term for loser? I don't know where you got that from but I am Canadian and I have not heard that before.

I don't get why the game didn't allow you to enter your own name on the character's nametag, even if the characters only called you rookie. They should remake the game just to add that, and maybe that face creation thing from Rainbow 6: New Vegas 2.
The North Remembers
The ongoing Ghostbusters comic books from IDW Publishing have revealed the PS3/360 Rookie's name to be Bryan Welsh (likely a play on the name of his in-game motion-capture actor, Ryan French). After the events of the game, he goes on to found the Chicago branch of the Ghostbusters franchise, and avoids having to deal with irate customers by never removing his "Rookie" name tag.
The two Rookies from the Wii/PS2/PSP versions also exist in the comics as separate characters, respectively named Chad Fuller and Maddie Collins.
We all have our problems, some just hide it better.
