Though under increasing pressure from the Catholic Church to stop performing exorcisms, Jacob pays a visit to a prisoner who displays signs of possession.
The case takes a strange turn, however, when Jacob realises that his subject may have been possessed by a saint.

A place to discuss Episode 3:- Good and bad

SO far I am looking forward to it.
I do not want to spoil it for anyone who has not read the review but the subject matter is looking tasty.

I'm in shock.
Episode 3 was mostly, realistic and extremely disturbing.

After the first 2 episodes,I was expecting more of the same.
The derivative, religious schlock horror of which I am a fan.
Episode 3 was something altogether different, with some new themes,
an excess of blood, and some genuinely shocking moments.

If only we had not seen inside the coffin and they just took
off their masks and smelt flowers.

Got a little bit confused with a few elements of this episode. I take it that the significance of the letter right at the end, which was written in faultless Aramaic, was that Cory had been possessed by Mary. However, what about all the Aramaic with bad syntax that they found in his cell - who was supposed to have written that?

The faulty syntax letters may have been written by young girl he murdered. Didn't her mother say that the letters contained information that only Mary (the daughter) would know? He seemed to be possessed by many entities so it is possible it could be someone else, but my money is on the murder victim.

WOW!!!

I have only just finished watching this episode and what a fantastic premise.
I have never heard of this, possession by a Saint and loved the fact that this episode did not run along the same formula as what has gone on before.
Possession by a demon, get close to him, conflict of interest with the church, theatrical exorcism.
I was worried that the show would fall into some repetitive trap.

I do have to say that I was a very little bit confused but not enough to spoil my enjoyment, and can only answer CJP's question in that the rapist seemed to be possessed by; a demon, (in this case I suspect the rapist of Saint's Maria the one who repented and bought her mother 14 lilies), the victim, Mary Magdeline and also maybe the Saint Maria herself.

Which might explain the Aramaic writings.

Although why the rapist's victim would write in the language of Jesus I am not sure.

I have to agree with this, the imagery would have been so much more powerful

The saying less is more should definitely have been applied here.

I think that the scene of the preserved body of the devout victim, was to portray God's hand in the whole affair.
THat her body had not been spoiled. I can only guess it is along the lines of Jesus' body being whole after his crucifixion....I am only guessing that bit was hard to figure out.

Also with the different types of writing the last which had perfect syntax was susposed to be from the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Did anyone else note that all the women involved were called Mary?

If you can stomach it there are some really weird sites on the internet that are by Catholics and they venerate the bodies of the saints. And sometimes they claim that the bodies are perfectly preserved in death. So a saint dies, they get put in a vault, wheeled out, they get photographed and wheeled back in again. And people all over the internet argue "She's rotted, they've put a mask over the corpse" and others say "No it's a miracle, praise the Lord." There's videos about it on Youtube too. Can anyone think of the name of one of these saints to Google? I'm not making this up. But it is some weird *beep* .

I saw this episode and really enjoyed it.

I am a little disturbed by the ongoing theme of sexualising nuns. There was the black nun taking a shower, thus nude. And this week, the nun and the attempted rape. If there's some kind of kink involving sexually objectifying nuns, I really don't want to know about it.

Ohh I have not heard of that for saints, if you find out about any please let me know. The only person I can think of is Lenin who has laid in state for years. I am not sure what was done to his body to preserve it.

For me the Nuns so far seem very anti-Catholic.
Maybe Nuns are taught a separate doctrine from Priests???

The saints who do not decompose are called incorruptibles. I believe there are about 250 of them.
St Bernadette, Padre Pio, St Teresa of Avila - are the ones that I've always remembered from when I was a child. Well...Padre Pio died in 1968 and what stayed with me growing up was hearing about Padre Pio in WWII from my family. I had found out later that he is one of the incorruptibles.
