I have looked all over this post and yet this question has never been asked nor answered. Why did Hakan put himself in the hospital? Was it soley for the purpose of Eli then being able to drain his blood and kiil him?? I don't understand - if someone could shed a light I'd be really grateful!
shareHåkan destroyed his face with acid so as avoid being identified and thereby leading people to Eli. One can only imaging that he thought the acid would kill him, and it probably would have, if he hadn't spilled most of it.

shareTo elaborate a little, all the neighbours really knew about him was what he looked like and where he lived, and that he lived with Eli (they didn't know his name, for example) - if he destroyed his face, the authorities would probably need to dig up old photos of him and so on to find out where he lived or to connect him with a kid, which would delay them and thus buy time for Eli. The acid would probably have killed him if he hadn't spilled most of it, and if he'd died finding out more about him would probably have been less of a priority for the cops, as there would've been no trial anyway, again buying time, as well as being a way to escape punishment.
