Where was the electricity or whatever coming from? Surely they didn't have some type of battery tech... what am I missing?

I think it was William H Macy.

He was recharging them. I mean, not him personally, but the character he was playing in this film. The character's name escapes me, so I just referred to him as William H Macy.

Yes, the staffs were referenced as one of his works and the other apes were impressed that Noa get them working. I also think Macy put the staffs into a storage device, but might be wrong memory.

Trevathan was his name. The staffs had battery source on the belt. Could see the staffs hooked by wires.
