Roth trolls the Left again
In Green Inferno he had hypocritical SJWs and Eco Warriors in his sights, this time he goes after anti-gun, soft-on-crime ‘Liberals’.
I could scarcely believe what I was seeing - a straight white male hero, a functional family, gun culture celebrated, non-white criminals, Chicago called out as a crime infested shithole, arch capitalist Milton Friedman name dropped by a compassionate character, pacifism ridiculed and vigilante gunishment rewarded...
It’s a wonder Roth was able to squeeze this through current year Hollywood, especially with the big name cast. I guess ‘it’s just a remake’ was enough to distract from the verboten material and right wing messaging coursing through his script.
Critics (now all Left wing) immediately tried to burn it on sight, but it was too late. Audiences were craving the simple story of an all-American man protecting and avenging his family with firearms, and getting away with it, both in the narrative and in the morality of the filmmakers. The Rotten Tomatoes ratio is already legendary.
It’s far from a great film - it entertains much like Taken did, stimulating those base paternal protector instincts and then quenching your bloodlust - but Roth’s naughty grin shone through every frame and it was thrilling to finally see something different.
