Would a reboot do it justice?

It's more timely now. A remake wouldn't have to hinge on the original movie nor be made to do it justice.
It can stand on it's own and be it's own movie. I'd think the film makers could also try to avoid the mistakes of the past Death Wish series.
Sure it's a classic andfor good reasons.
But a newer Death Wish can be a lot more then just a remake.

How are these vigilante films doing at the box office? It's been a while since I saw THE BRAVE ONE and DEATH SENTENCE. Will a DEATH WISH remake make money, or will they change it enough to be some conventional action movie?

The brave one & Death sentence weren't as good as the original Death wish.

I think the temptation will be high to put more action since it stars
Willis but i just hope they keep the things that made the original so good.

No.

They already had The Brave One, Harry Brown and Death Sentence recently.. I don't see the point in this remake if they use the same story structure

With this director at the helm, I think so. Check out big bad wolves

The thing I loved about the original film was the anticlimactic ending. His daughter became a vegetable for life, Paul's son-in-law plain sucked, the thugs that raped his wife were never caught, AND he got booted from his own city. The last scene in Chicago was simply tragic and I doubt Hollywood will be able to conclude this story on such a sour note..

My thoughts have been similar since I found out the film was being remade. While I don't doubt this could be a fun movie to see, it won't be anything like the original. There was a freedom to make movies with anticlimactic ambiguity in the '70s that seems gone today, and a tolerance among audiences for stories that were slow to build, and lacking in over-the-top special effects.

The original Death Wish was not art house cinema. It was aimed squarely at mainstream, blue collar audiences out for a shoot 'em up crime thriller. Today's audiences would as soon see a Luis Buñuel film as Death Wish, and would grasp each about the same.

I expect the 2018 Death Wish will avoid any controversy or ambiguity, and give us a straight-forward, fast-paced action film with plenty of gunfire and extended action set pieces.
