Honestly tho, does no sequel hurt or help this movie?

Honestly, does no sequel hurt, or help this movie?

deep down, to me, it kind of hurts it, its a good stand alone movie, love the action, the story....but without some kind of a resolve... personally i think it hurts the overall movie

the aliens just leave and meekus turns into an alien.... again, that alone is cool,...but i thought we were going to get a bit more...

While part of me is curious what a sequel to this would be like, I don't think it is necessary. It is perfect as it is and the ending leaves a lot of things open to interpretation and speculation (as great films/movies do). It would be hard to top District 9.

I think no sequel is needed. I like how it ends. Three years is a long time. Will wikus survive? Will Christopher come back, even though he promised?
Good stuff. Hopefully we'll never know

neither. If there was sequel, it'd hurt sequel. This film remains a masterpiece anyway.

I think this movie perfectly stands on its own. And you know how sometimes sequels ruin their predecessors, right? So yeah, District 9 should be left alone. It's brilliant and doesn't need a sequel.

I think that District 9 is a magnificent movie regardless, but certainly a sequel could do a lot to delight audiences.

I'd like to see scenes of poor alien-Wickus sneaking out of the ghetto to visit his home and peep at his wife and kid through the window at night. That's something they only briefly touched on in Robocop-2, and never properly developed further. Maybe Wickus' wife has remarried. Maybe Wickus no longer has much intelligence left, and has become as stupid as the drone-prawns, but is still driven by some basic desire to see his wife and child.

The original movie is about the oppressor-guy being transformed into one of his victims, but he should be given a chance at redemption.

sequels are usually disappointing. but i want 1 anyhow cuz i liked this

I feel the same.

I would *love* a sequel, but a GOOD one.

Last disappointing sequel I saw was 'Monsters: Dark Continent'.

It was wretched 

i agree with both points. still i'd like the story to continue

Me too... recently watched this again and thought how cool if Wickus was taken back to their home world, fixed and then by some twist of the story line where the Prawns offload abducted humans to their own district-9 - or has that been done already πŸ˜ƒ

I think a sequel might actually flop compared to the original. It would almost have to be a completely different movie. You might still be able to do it in a partial documentary style, but I can't see how the sequel could work without Christopher coming back with a large contingent of his buddies to kick some Johannesburg ass. The MNU would still want the technology, and Wikus needs to be healed, but other than that, what story lines or plots could be used to fit the needs of the film?

As others have said, I think it's fine. When I first saw it, I definitely wanted to know there was a sequel coming, but as the years roll on, I'm kind of glad there wasn't one. The ending leaves it nice and open.
