A clip show? REALLY?!

I mean... fine if it wasn't the FINAL episode? BUT A CLIP SHOW FINALE?! Really? Some of the scenes were cute, but I kept waiting for them to do that 1990s wavy effect and suddenly we would be in the kitchen with The Golden Girls and Sofia would turn and say, "Boy that was fun, girls... Remember that time Blanche came home with that African sex idol that turned out to be an Artifact... and still no one would sleep with you Artie"... and Artie would say, "Shaddy Pines, Ma!"

Kinda not a clip show, since none of the memories except for 3 minutes of Pete's at the end were clips from prior episodes. All original content filmed for this episode.

I realize that, but it was still a clip show... just a clip show of original scenes... hence my Golden Girls joke... they did those "do you remember the time we..." shows a lot.

It actually makes me angrier that it was original scenes... I mean, they paid to bring back HG and all those special effects for a clip show? Any one of those clips could have been expanded and turned into a finale episode. But instead of bothering to write a coherent finale, the writers said, "well, here are a bunch of ideas we had, but we don't have time to do them or really flesh them out, so what the hell?! Let's just throw them into a bag and pull them out at random."

The 42nd Street thing was cute though, but again... it didn't need to be that long and it didn't need to be a freaking clip show. The finale was basically Ms. Frederick and Jinks watching old home movies... and we didn't even get to see the interesting clips about Ms. Fredericks past?!

reply

Really doesn't seem that much different than any flashback episode. A little story in the "now" and a little story in the "then".

I actually thought the Jinks/Ms. F scenes were great, the one that felt he didn't belong, being privy to things no one else knew.

reply

Bit of a let-down.

I disagree. I have come to the perfect place.

reply

It's not really a clip show since the scenes of the past were newly filmed.

Not great, but not as bad as the Seinfeld finale...

Quoted for truth.

My shoes are too tight, but it doesn't matter because I've forgotten how to dance

reply

this is more of a personal point of annoyance than on topic, but why do so many people bring up the seinfeld finale when complaining about a show's finale in an attempt to imply that the seinfeld finale was "bad"? I've seen this happen a lot anytime a show ends...

the seinfeld finale was EXCELLENT

i think a lot of people just didn't "get it"

the plane really crashed. think about that for a moment

reply

Sorry, "Seinfeld" wasn't "Lost" or "The Sopranos" There were no mysteries, wrapped in riddles in that less than worthy finale.

reply

wouldn't really try frame it as a mystery wrapped in a riddle sealed in an enigma or anything...

it was a pretty straightforward message

y'know? you don't need a decoder ring and cypher to say hotel california wasn't about a hotel in california with terrible staff

"it was a pretty straightforward message"

Well, I was a huge Seinfeld fan, and in the 16 years since the finale, I've talked with friends about it and discussed it on the message boards and this is the first time I've heard this pet theory of yours, so no- it's not a straightforward message.

It's not?!?!? You're crazy! The next thing you'll tell me is that Van Halen's "Dance The Night Away" wasn't really about dancing...
