The True Story This Was Based On....SPOILERS

This was based on a true story and many of the events in the movie (cooking body parts, feeding body parts to the dog, freezing a body, motive) were remarkably on point. I thought what an awful mashup of the movie, but as they say truth is stranger than fiction.

It kind of reminds me of that story that just happened now in Cleveland with those 3 girls who were rescued.

I got on this board to see if anyone else noticed that! So similar to it but the kidnappings in the news happened over 10 years ago. This plot is so similar though.

The true story took place in Alaska, and the guy wasn't bent on getting girls pregnant, right? There was no cop's daughter kidnapped, and no cop's partner killing him. He got caught when one prostitute escaped..

Thank you for clearing that up, Carriage. I was looking for the story the movie was based on. How did you find this?

You just described "The Frozen Ground", FoolishCarriage.

No,thats the story of Robert Hanson, Frozen Ground. The factory is the Gary Heidnik story. Google his name and you'll see how close the movie is to the real story.

It's a sick world when there are so many real life instances of this movie happening. The latest being with the 3 Cleveland girls. Since then, a number of other girls have come forward to share their story, and it doesn't get any better.

Some of the things these sick bastards do to these kidnapped girls is unthinkable. It's all around us. If anything, I hope it causes everyone to raise their attention to anything out of the ordinary in life.

The only thing I knew about this film prior to watching it was that it was about a serial killer. So at the start when it said it was based on true events and took place in Buffalo, N.Y. the first thought that went through my head was the "22 Caliber Killer" or the "Midtown Slasher" from the 1980's in Buffalo. After a few minutes into the film it becomes obvious this isnt about Joseph Christopher aka the "22 Caliber Killer/Midtown Slasher" (yet another example of how SICK some people can be). So, if youre correct that the story this is based on actually took place in Alaska I am just curious why they moved the location to Buffalo?

"Based on actual events" was highly unfair.
Very much like saying "Waterworld" is based on actual events because people, water, and jets skis do actually exist.
So, I watched it expecting to discover some previously unknown (to me) case unfold.
I know it's my own fault...because the moment Mike's daughter falls prey to this guy I said "huh?"...and should have known better. Even so, I didn't suspend all disbelief, as I rightly should have...so the end wasn't...for me a clever shocker, or an even remotely inspired twist...just the hallmark of a grade z movie trying so desperately to be clever and interesting.
