What an original plot

There's a serial killer out there and a cop is trying to stop him! And the serial killer goes after him! He's obsessed! And guess what? The serial killer makes it personal by going after the cops family member!!!! This has never been done before! I can't wait to see this refreshingly unique movie.

By the way...do you think the daughter is saved by the cop before the serial killer kills her?

Will there be an FBI profiler? Will there be a scene where the serial killer calls and the cop has to keep him on the line and the FBI tech guy tells him to keep him on the line so they can get his location? Just pathetic.

Please don't judge... especially when what you know about this film is actually nothing at all. Take it from an insider, you couldn't have gotten it more wrong. Things that aren't yet explained in the synopsis haven't been so as not to spoil the plot for others... I'll say no more, just that you got it way wrong... remember that this film is based on a true story... unfortunately it is often the case that history itself is so twisted, it alone holds all the originality a story needs.

reply

Hey I hope you're right. You do have to admit that what I wrote is the basic plot of these types of movies. I'm always rooting for another Silence of the Lambs.

It seems that for every real life serial killer there have been about 50 books/movies.

reply

Well, come on, the plot isn't really based on a "real story"....there are elements in the story as to what a particular killer was like, but these are imaginary characters, in a plot that's built from scratch.

Wrong cookie, This movie is based on the Gary Heidnik story out of Philadelphia and it is very close to the actual crime. Women chained in a basement, wanted to make a big family, had a hole dug in the ground for punishment, fed them dog food and more.

There is nothing new under the sun...

reply

Yeah....not everything is NEW, but some things are definitely T-I-R-E-D.........

Really looking forward to seeing this film and to seeing Tinker Tailor Solider Spy later this month. So many movies I want to see and not enough time.

reply

I don't care if it's the most unoriginal movie on the planet...

1. It's got a good cast.

2. It's a "hunting a serial killer" flick. I love, love, love those.

3. It's set in NYC. Win.

And I'm interested to see the story unfold. It's about the journey, right?

reply

it's not set in nyc, but in nys. buffalo, to be exact. thank god -- nyc would have been a deal breaker.

Have you seen the godamn film?? NOOO!!! Soo SHUT UP!!

Plot was pretty original in my opinion.

reply

That was what i was thinking. It's all the same and very clichéd but Ksenia Solo is what brought me here. And Mae Whitman, and Michael Trevino are in so I'm interested. Plus I have never watched anything of this genre because they do not interest me in the slightest so it'll probably be new to me.

TV taught me how to feel. Now real life has no appeal.

Just finished watching an advance copy of this ten minutes ago.

OP was right on point (except for the profiler thing), but neglected to add the hugely ridiculous and out-of-left-field plot "twist" that pretty much ruined the entire movie.

reply

Yep the OP nailed it, and the ending made it much worse or I would have somewhat liked it even though it was not original.

I agree. Why does Hollywood keep using the 'based on actual events' plug? I thought it was until I got to the stupid twist at the end, and then, as someone else said, none of the film made sense any more. I think that kind of lie should be sueable.

I liked the twist, it took me by surprise although when they did the flashbacks there were a couple of things I should have picked up on. Also, the film says it was 'inspired' by real events and that allows the filmmakers more licence than 'based on' I think.
