Gawd, you viewers must be so JADED to see the twist. First of all, not every movie has a twist, does it? Secondly, she was so-well adjusted, a friend of the family, a veteran cop, a detective--how could she be brainwashed by so-and-so?
But seriously, you must be LOOKING for twists in every movie you see if you saw this coming, and when it doesn't happen, you must feel let down. I feel a little sorry for you. Many great thrillers have no twists, you know--look at Fargo or One False Move, for example, to just name a couple. Twists that don't really hold up are just cheap devices, like loud bang music in horror films. People who are fooled into thinking these cheap devices are true dramatic elements tied to the plot, are fooling themselves, and missing out. Also, plot 101 in writing school is that you keep an audience by giving it a sympathetic character. Killing one off for the sake of a less-developed cipher of a character is not good writing. It would have been different if there had been a long build-up to the betrayal, a rivalry even, but to just kill off the father and hero like that for the sake of shock value really hurts the film and degrades an otherwise decent thriller. After all, the villain and the baby-factory idea was interesting enough, plus the daughter getting caught up in it. How much more do you want? Sheesh.
