Ah I see. You're undoubtedly the expert. I'm sure you had a personal conversation with the film makers and they confirmed that they adore Herb Alpert and decided to design a poster in tribute to him for a film that has nothing to do with Herb Alpert. If you believe that, I have some beach front property in Arizona that I'll sell to you really cheap.
shareIt doesn't have to be an exact copy to be a "tribute" or at least somewhat inspired by. I think it probably was to some extent. And it would be unfathomable if nobody in the art department that designed and put out the poster were unaware of the album cover in question here. Not sure why you're so bothered by the concept. Nobody is calling this movie poster a rip-off or anything. But it does certainly bring Whipped Cream & Other Delights to mind.
shareI never said it's a "rip-off". I said there's no reason to think the two images are in any way related other than coincidence. And so far no one has made a convincing argument to the contrary. Coincidence is the most likely explanation in the absence of any compelling reason to think otherwise. I could say the moon is made of cheese, but my opinion doesn't make it true with no evidence.
