Joker = Trump

The mob and group of people who blindly followed Joker I thought was pretty clear subtext for Trump and his followers I thought.

Not really

Yes he was.

reply

okay

reply

Why? Because of that scene where he wears a Maga hat?

reply

you could say the same thing about any NFL or MLB team, about a singer, actor, religious personality, etc...

reply

You can, but there are several parallels between this movie and Trump I think are pretty obvious.

Unfortunately, after watching the trailer, I cannot deny your claim. There is few sign of allegory related to Trump, with an attempt to capitalize on the trials against him and the upcoming election. Where does this suspicion arise from? (1) The film centers around Joker's trial; (2) In the scene where he is driving in the car, there are at least three characters dressed as the Joker who bear a suspicious resemblance to Trump; (3) The theme of 'second time' repeats throughout the trailer, including in the song they selected.

This is poor storytelling and inconsistent with the Joker's character as depicted in the last film—a mentally unstable anarchist, without ideology, anti-establishment, anti-capitalist, who manipulates young minds and liberal students with slogans reminiscent of the New Left, normalizing violence as an alleged way to fight so called corruption and social justice. In the '60s, they called it "Radical Chic."

Allegory in general is the most inferior and lazy form of artistic creation.

"It's clearly Trump because he's a loud, obnoxious, blowhard who makes mockeries out of trials and panders towards a cultist-like fanbase with contempt towards democracy, rule of law and anything/anyone that doesn't support their movement"

Nice self report, but no. These are just readings why Trump should be kicked out of the spotlight for the good of the country.

In reality, Joker=Todd Philips. In the movie he suffers from an identity crisis as he can't tell if he should keep playing into the dangerous fantasy that his fans want or tell them the truth. Unfortunately, Todd Philips is a hack and a fraud so he couldn't figure out how to make a good conclusion that his fanbase would accept so instead just bombed it all.

It just fits so well. You can't do that with the other guy, at least I haven't seen it yet.
