Yes, it is a true story. My boss is involved in the production team of this movie. He is also a graduate of Wake Forest. When we went to be extras, we met the "real" John Abatte.
How strange it must have been for Ryan Merriman to play John, when the real John was right there watching him.

It is based on a true story of a Wake Forest Football player and his family.
When we appeared as extras in the movie, we met both the Acting family of Andie McDowell, Aiden Quinn and Ryan Merriman....... and also the real Abatte family.
It was very emotional.
