Don't know if I'm going to continue watching after S2E1

I was worried at the exciting ending to Season 1 of Severance that they shot their load and could not go anywhere from there. The first episode of Season 2 seems to justify that fear. SPOILERS:

It just strained credulity. Helly (who is an Egan) outs Lumon for its abuses at a gala event. No real repercussions for her or Lumon; she just returns to work there. The only change is a claymation video supposedly lauding the four as heroes who forced Lumon to be reflective and no longer mistreat its employees? Why would any of the four ever be let back into the building? Why would the four possibly return to work other than to destroy Lumon from within? Wouldn't The Board realize this?

I suppose Mark would return to reclaim his wife (Ms. Casey), but, again, wouldn't Lumon realize that that is his sole objective after his outburst at his sister and brother-in-law's party? I also found the idea of Helly going from Mark's love interest to platonic friend aiding him in his search for his thought-to-be deceased wife to be pretty laughable.

Is it me or has Severance 'jumped the shark'?

I believe that they aren't heroes and that is all made up so the "innies" believe that they made a difference.

reply

Of course, they aren't heroes to Lumon. To their credit, none of the four appear to actually believe the PR spin the calymation video espouses. But it just doesn't make sense that the company would continue on or that Lumon would allow each of the four back into the premises.

It looks like the newspaper was bullshit.

Also pretty sure the Helly that "returns" to Lumon is her Outtie. Of course, she could be lying to the others about what she saw outside out of shame of being an Egan, but there's a good chance she's been asked to go sort her Innie's shit out, or that she had a change of heart and decided to go see by herself.
In short: I don't know anything!

I just can't fathom that law enforcement would allow her to go to sleep and just return to that place as an Innie after she accused Lumon of such treachery in such a public way. And I can't imagine her returning as an Outtie undercover. After you come to the realization as to what's been happening to you and go public about it, why would you go back and why would Lumon let you back in? Better they just re-integrate the four and say, "Everyone else is happy and they'll be even happier now that we're instituting reforms." Then have the original four work to defeat Lumon once and for all from mthe outside perhaps with new actors/actresses to infiltrate Lumon from the inside. That, to me, would have been the only way to continue the series. As of now, I have not yet been able to bring myself to watch episode 2.

All this is answered in S02E02.

Some of it, not all of it. The show has a lot to prove, at this point, in terms of holding audience interest.

hell nah. ep 1 was kinda boring and i felt similarly but god damn ep2 is good. it might be the best ep of the whole show. it humanizes lumon and makes the mystery even more intriguing because it's not just random weird shit.
