Mobsters/Mafia guys

What happened to them? Did I miss something? I thought for sure they'd come back and be part of the plot.

My guess is that they were not really mafia guys but posers trying to make a quick buck.

Wow, I completely forgot about those guys. That was pointless.

Actually when I saw some of the movie a second time Vilma mentions the following.

"By the way, those clowns you and your dear parents chased off. Not nice people. I know. I was playing the horses, if you know what I mean, over by the racetrack
in Monticello."

This suggests to me that they were possible mob guys but small time.

My feeling was that it was a times are changing moment. These guys tried to come in and do their typical shake down thing, but it wasn't going to work here. Woodstock was something way bigger than anybody involved in it. There was no way they would be able to get a taste. Not this time.

In the sixties the gangster wannabes were'nt teenaged blacks or hispanics, the were middle-aged Italian & Jewish guys. The demographic changes, but the act is still the same. Upstate New York had lots of those guys back then. The dad taking a baseball bat to their knees was an alegory of the changing times.
