Catskills in 60s

In this film and Walking on the Moon, the setting of the Catskill Mountains is depicted as predominantly Jewish resort motels and cabins which entire families from New York City inhabit. I'm not from the region nor familiar with the background for this, but why were there so many Jewish people migrating to this region. Did they settle there or was this only a summer event? Also, did other ethnic groups inhabit the Catskills and does this practice continue to this day?

Thank you for this link. Very interesting to know the history of a place.

Yes, there were many Jews living in NYC and they vacationed up in the mountains. Many had bungalows that they stayed in all summer. The wealthier ones stayed in hotels.

i'm proud to admit to never have watched a "reality" tv program!
