Right after the VW trip scene

These some guys standing around a fire ripping up what looks like wallet sized cards of some sort.
What are they

Draft cards. One of the guys around the fire is Billy's older brother, Dan.

Most likely they were draft cards.

As someone who carried a draft card, who was lucky enough to get a high number in the first lottery, it somehow is very nice that there are generations now that have to ask what cards they are burning in this scene. It is a small sign that maybe some of our efforts in the 60's actually were successful. Thank you.

Maybe, but on the other hand, ignorance of history is no excuse. These are presumably the children of the parents who burned these cards asking these questions. But I guess I'll cut them some slack for asking the questions and seeking out the answers.
