Woodstock 'Funding'?

I'm really confused about where the people who were the heads of Woodstock got their money. And the way they handled it seemed really shady and off to me for some reason.

Like the way they just gave a bag of cash?

Is this accurate to the way they made their money transactions or is it more hollywood-ified and made to make them look shady?
