I don't get it
Everyone here is saying how fantastic this film is. I just got out the cinema and I just don't get it. There are some funny bits but then the film throws you into a load of drama. Almost like they don't want you to enjoy the film.
They try to portray that the girl starts seeing that she is wasting her life and she needs to engage love etc etc. But you don't really see that blossom, before you know they are walking off into the sunset.
Its like there is part of the film missing, like they run out of money and didn't want to show you the happy part of the film.
It's not even like I am alone in this thinking, I couldn't help over hearing most people walking out the cinema saying how dreadful the film was.
Yes its great she turned the show around but I felt it was weak. Who were the other two evil people in the world in front of Ford? Who was Fords source and if he gets this type of information, why didn't he use them before? Why would putting a reporter on a rollercoaster improve ratings so much? It's not really that extreme, I think the director should have watched "The Big Breakfast" in the UK, they would have had a lot more interesting ideas than sumo suit wrestling and sky diving.
I felt like this film is a parody of Ford's real life. What a fantastic actor, now working through the dregs of films trying to keep up appearances. It wouldn't surprise me if the producer had an old contract of Ford's somewhere that insisted he had to do whatever the producer asked. I don't think Ford would willingly choose this film.
A friend I went with commented, "I am glad the cinema was not packed out or else I would have had more people to feel sorry for that had to go through that".
I have watched a lot of films in this genre and I find nothing refreshing or different about it, apart from it didn't feel finished. Disappointed.
