Rachel McAdams did not annoy me in the slightest bit. I realized her over exuberance was a part of the character and she was supposed to be “too perky” in some scenes. The writer’s knew this as evidenced by the other character's responses when she displayed an overabundance of sprightliness -- "That was embarrassing," "Are you going to sing?" and "You're nuts!" She tuned it down some after spending some time with her bf. But she couldn’t turn it down too much because it was a part of how and why she turned the show around. I saw it as part of her character and it was not intolerable for me. And it didn’t seem to annoy too many critics judging by the reviews. Even if they hated the movie, most were happy with her.

Your original post makes it sound like McAdams is an untalented floozie who makes Pia Zidora look like Katherine Hepburn. I have seen some posts they may agree with this sentiment, but a majority do not. I’m not saying this is the “Greatest Performance Ever,” but just that she had to overdo it for some scenes to demonstrate she is an energetic woman who, while focused, also tends to overlook some of her own needs as a result and misses it sometimes (thinking she was going to get the job in the beginning, etc). She got it together by the end, I thought. Some might say it was too much for them to enjoy the movie, but I would hope those who come here and have not seen it will not think “McAdams is annoying” and avoid the movie without giving it a chance. There are probably a lot of people who are going to pass this one up, see it on DVD months later and say “Man, I should’ve gone and seen this in the theaters!” That has happened to me before.

Also, I have worked in the professional world and worked for women who are perkier than McAdams portrayed. The only thing is they are perky in a mean way, running over people just to get ahead. I have known people to actually die because of this.

Think what you will, but IMO McAdams did a good job and “Morning Glory,” while
not the best movie in the world, was worth my time and effort.

No, I actually like Rachel McAdams, but I found her character irritating in this movie.

Yes, I couldn't like this movie because her character was too damn all over the place. I give some leeway to the females in these kind of movies but she was just too much of a mess.

About half the people who reviewed this movie did.

Yes, I found the character of Becky really annoying. It wasn't McAdams or her acting, I don't think; I typically really like her, at least. But I thought this movie was awful, and it was mostly because of Becky. I wasn't rooting for her at all, and I wasn't at all invested in how things turned out for her (or any of the characters). That scene where she was in Adam's office trying to explain why she rushed out of the bar had me literally shrinking in my seat & cringing! Her pantomiming & being all out of breath was obnoxious, and I think it was supposed to come across as cute?

I think the audience was supposed to find Becky quirky & endearing? Like, "Aww, she's so zany! She's so busy & loopy & she's just adorable!" It didn't work for me in the slightest. I knew this movie wouldn't be Oscar-caliber or anything, but it was honestly one of the worst movies I've seen in awhile - and the girlfriend I was with agreed. I'm surprised by all the positive reviews (and the 7.0 rating on IMDb!) - but obviously different strokes for different folks. I'm not knocking anyone who enjoyed it. I'm honestly surprised by how much I hated it.

i agree! it felt like she was trying to play a sandra bullock character, but the quirky just came off as annoying. she seemed so all over the place all the time, I couldn't figure out how she was so good at her job.
i ususally like her but Becky was just such a spaz i didn't really care whether or not she succeeded.

YES. I was disappointed. I'm a huge Rachel McAdams fan. Even if I don't like her characters, I always enjoy watching her act because she totally OWNS her character. Just compare Collee from The Lucky Ones with Regina George from Mean Girls. I think that was why she was so annoying, that was who the character was supposed to be, and Rachel threw herself into the role as always.

I was just really annoyed. Her "oh look at me I'm such a mess but will inexplicably charm a guy into loving me" thing. I agree with the poster who cringed at how she was acting in Patrick's office. And of course, he falls for her. *eyeroll*

This would have been a top ten of the year for me if Mike Pomeroy would have shot her in the face when she found him hunting.
