I understand it. It was from Aline Brosh McKenna, and had the basics of a "cute" movie (even if it was predictable). I'll bet they had high hopes for it, even while filming it. But I think it fell apart in editing.

I thought this movie was dragging on with excess scenes of people running from one place to another for way to long. At about 20 minutes shorter, this probably would have been much better.

It just seemed like they were trying to stretch it out to much, and it actually hurt. It would have been wittier if it was a bit faster pace. And you can't make it "fast paced" by having people running from one place to another in such long segments that took up so much of the screen time. And, they could have cut out (or cut in half) so many of the music montages. They were attempting to be dramatic, but the soundtrack was bland at best, and they went on to long to get to the punch at the end of the montage.

I wanted to like this movie, based on the actors and potential of the plot. But, it just came across as flat, and it seems it was all due to the editing.

Yes, it is posible.

IMO a good screemplay (good main idea and well develop) is in general a good movie.

If you have a weak screemplay (without surprises) you need a lot of things to make a good movie.
