Te romance sub-plot really could have been removed...

The romance seemed liked a side plot that really wasn't necessary. Rachel McAdams was great in her role of trying to save a failing morning news program with her bickering co-stars...

But Patrick Wilson's character was extremely one-note and really offered nothing to the story other than a handsome face.

Producers really should have excised that plot from the movie. It didn't do much and was the least interesting thing in the film...

I thought he would have added nicely to the plot but as it turned out he wasn't one of harrison fords children after all as I'd expected. It would have all fit nicely. He was pissed off at her for looking at her phone at dinner etc. just like he said he did. I've known him a long time he said to her at one point. That would have given his character more of a point. But as it turned out I agree. Not enough there to justify the character or sub-plot.

The romance that was infused into the film is something added to move the film into the Romace Genre. You bring in more fans, as Harison Ford fans do not care for the Genre [at least not lately], but, Diane Keaton and Rachael Mc. Fans are looking for just that. Guys, Harrison Ford Gals, Rachael and Diane. They thought by trying to bring in both side of the isle they would do better at the box office even though there was not much Romance in this film.

The purpose of Adam (I think that was his name?) was to be a grounding force in Becky's life. Without his calming influence, she would do nothing but bounce off the walls 24/7, which would have been virtually unwatchable. There had to be moments where someone told that girl to stop and breathe.

Not to mention that Harrison is getting a little long in the tooth, so Patrick Wilson gave the ladies a little eye candy to enjoy.

I liked the little romance between the McAdams & Wilson charachers. But I would have also liked a little romance between the Keaton & Ford characters. Even just a hint...but there really was nothing of that. I kind of thought beforehand that there would have been. Anyone else?

It's kinda blink-and-you'd-miss-it, but I think he and Keaton's character were discreetly hinted to be romping by the end. In his last scene, Ford's headed into his bedroom with a woman whose butt he squeezes. And while her face isn't shown, she's wearing a nice white skirted suit that looks very much like something his coanchor would wear. Anyone else catch that and interpret it the same way?

If they hadn't put that in there, the audience may have assumed there was something going on with Harrison Ford's character due to the strong emotions between them. I think they wanted to avoid the old man with the young girl movie cliche.

They know that female viewers can't cope with movies with no romance.

The problem for me was their relationship wasn't even "romantic". It seemed to only revolve around sex. They had zero chemistry and it just didn't work. It was purely sexual, not interesting at all.
