But it is an unrealistic movie. So the character is unrealistic too.
We are set up at the beginning, she is career-driven, workaholic, will do absolutely anything for a job and a show.
Then she has a chance for the ultimate career move, and she abandons it for the job where she... well you know.
If the movie even wanted to be true to a character, they just didn't. I know, it isn't Schindler's List.
She figured out over the course of events that somethings in life are more important, like job satisfaction and the bonds you form with the people you work with. Mike Pomeroy somehow persuaded her that even an old dog can learn new tricks. She had whipped this crew into shape, won Mike over, and brought up the ratings.
I don't know what I would have done--but like you say, the whole movie was over-the-top silly, so it's not really a realistic thing to ponder.
It's massively unlikely, of course, as is her huge improvement in the muddled mess at IBS. So is her silly unprofessional outfit for that crucial interview, when her business clothing sense has been pretty much impeccable for the entire movie before that point. But if she continues making a hit of "Daybreak", "Today" would surely offer her the job again. So I rolled with it.
shareDid the OP miss the whole dialogue Becky had with Adam about "the best job in the business" or choose to ignore it? To me it's all about going with the flow of the film. Nothing lasts of course in the news business, but if you've ever had the experience of building a team from a bunch of rugged individuals, it can creae a chemistry that can't be beat.
