Burlesque. Best. Movie. Ever.

This movie changed my life.

I am inspired daily of Ali's journey to overcome being a small-town girl waitressing and taking her boss' money to travel to the magical land of LA, where if you forcibly gain employment by refusing to take no for an answer, one may become the star of a burlesque club.

The writing (the dialogue! the delivery!) and the acting were impeccable. I know that if I practice hard enough, I'll be able to belt out songs just like Ali, at a crucial moment to prove to anyone that I deserve a chance gosh darn it!

I have purchased several copies of this DVD in an attempt to bolster sales and to prove to everyone that this movie should have earned Oscars by the truckload.

Additionally, the use of the blue light to evoke a sad song, and red to denote an upbeat, sassy song. Intellectual gold!

I wouldn't say it's the 'best movie ever'. In fact, the film isn't that great, it's one giant cliché, it's predictable and Christina Aguilera cannot act to save her life. The only reason I enjoy this film is for the music.

Well, i wouldn't say "the best.." It would have been...if Cher had done a nude scene..Because i wanted to SEE it!

"IMdB; where 14 year olds can act like jaded 40 year old critics...'

I may have enjoyed it more if i hadn't seen Chicago, Moulin Rouge, and Coyote Ugly first. Just couldn't stop picking out the similarities of this movie to all of those.

Christina is one of my favorites. I don't like this movie. I do like the soundtrack though. In real life its not really that easy.

I can happily say that I enjoyed Burlesque very much. Considering I'm usually a big fan of sexy musicals such as 'All That Jaz', 'A Chorus Line' and 'Chicago', I believed I would like it, But you can never be too sure. After all, I did stupidly buy a DVD copy of 'Nine' without ever having seen the whole movie and ended up very dissapointed. Also I didn't particularly love 'Moulin Rouge', But Burlesque was great.

You are kidding, right?

Normally, I love these kinds of musicals. I probably could not recognize great writing if it bit me on the butt, so I'm easy...if I enjoy it, I'm happy. With the talent in this movie, I expected to at least enjoy it. But when I'm stopping to wonder how they could have kept filming something this terrible without at least asking for help, then it's a BAD movie.]

Sometimes I could not tell the women apart. Cher often seemed to be reciting lines of one her old movies with the attitude that worked there, but nothing belonged here. Was this movie an inside joke where they tried to include as many homages to other movies as they could? I saw Showgirls, Cabaret, Coyote Ugly, Sweet Charity, Funny Girl, Chicago, All That Jazz, and Pretty Woman.

What I didn't see was any originality. Couldn't they have had a single reference to the fact this little white girl sounds like she's twice her size and an entirely different heritage? That may have been interesting. But everyone acting like she can just sing was weird. No reference to a recording career? Cher supposedly in the biz all those years and it never occurs to her that this chick could be gone next week with the first guy who offers her a contract?

Hard to enjoy a movie where the characters are all so snotty and glib, more like a job you count the minutes till you could walk out the door at night. They gave Cher two scenes where she could be nice, 1st to a pregnant employee, then to the one who sings, helping her with makeup, so someone knew they were an awful group of people..... Weird.

I really hate it when people post comments like this when they simply missed the detail they claim wasn't present. Quoted from the film:

Jack: "Where did that come from?"

Sean: "Yes, where did that come from?"

Coco: "I didn't know any white chick could sing like that."

Ali: "I don't know. I've just always been able to do it."
