Burlesque is underrated!

What makes this movie really entertaining is the fact that it is a throwback to the Old Hollywood musicals that were romantic, light, fun and had really strong talent. Christina was great in her big screen debut. Cher was Cher; fantastic, witty, strong. The ensemble really rounded out the film. My only three complaints were the directing, pacing of the film and no Cher/Christina duet.

The directing and pacing of the film go hand in hand. Christina's opening number is fantastic but the transition to LA is awkwardly presented and doesn't hit its stride until Cher sings Welcome to Burlesque. Also there is a good chunk of time, after Express, where the is not enough music and too much talking. They could have also shortened the movie by ten minutes or took out a few scenes and then giving us my next point...

There should have been a Cher/Christina duet. They are both Iconic singers of their generations, why couldn't they do a duet for the film??? I know all of the performances are on stage, so they had to make it realistic in that way. But that could have easily been fixed with having Cher teaching Ali a new performance for the club and them having a fun moment to belt it out with one another.

Oh well though. Burlesque remains underrated and awesome!

I do wonder why is that there was no duet between Alice and Tess since I think it would have been a great scene to see. I do think that Christina Aguilera and Cher were both perfect in the film.

I know! It's so under-rated. I can't believe people are saying Christina, can't sing, can't act and ain't pretty enough in this. And for the first time, I see her beauty. Usually she hides it under hideous amount of make up.

Are we watching the same movie?

She was brilliant, and the perfect lead. Her dance moves, choreography were all flawless. And of course she has that strong powerful voice that made everything work superbly.

I expected such a movie to have a cheesy simple plot, but it's sweet cheese.

This is not meant to be a serious movie, it's just a light hearted entertainment, just enjoy the show kind of movie.

I totally agree that Burlesque is EXTREMELY underrated! I love this movie..the singing is AMAZING, the dance numbers are crazy good and Cher is .... well Cher! Fantastic and sexy and her voice is still amazing. I really wish she and Christina did a duet. That would have been wonderful. People should give this movie a second chance and really pay attention to the music and dancing.

This movie certainly deserved way more than the puny 5.5 "stars" reviews. It was A W E S O M E. When my bestie and I watched the trailer on a diff home video, I knew it was going to be good.

I was on the edge of my seat at times. And I totally agree with a previous contributor here.. it is an awesome, down-home throwback to the classic Hollywood tinsel shows of Astaire and Rogers.

It's basically Dirty Dancing meets Moulin Rouge.

And the two prob didn't perform a duet because of their character relationship flow from start to middle. Remember.. Ali merely saved the show. Tess dealt with finance struggles until the end, hardly any soft moment to perform any sort of duet, unless it would have been vignette.

I LOVED this movie too!:) It was so much fun! I am watching it again on ABC family right now. If you don't overanalyze things, and just enjoy the movie for what it is, pretty much what you all said it was, it's a great movie with strong female leads:) And don't forget that hottie Jack:) YUM! That whole scene with the cookies got me so frazzled lol!:) OH my! The storyline wasn't superfab, but good enough to follow along. I have seen movie musicals that have been much worse. It was totally underrated:)!

My daughter and I LOVE this movie! I actually watched it when it was in the theaters and came out singing all the songs. I do think you have to be a Cher and Xtina fan to full appreciate it but Burlesque might win you over if you like movie musicals like Chicago. Beautiful girls, wickedly handsome men, gorgeous costumes, amazing performances...what more can you ask for in this kind of movie? I actually think the soundtrack is more undeservedly underrated than the movie. It's a shame that Christina's beautiful rendition of "Bound to You" is not more widely known.

This movie came highly recommended and I loved the glitz, the bling and the belting out of songs. A big plus was Jack; he looks like an old beau!

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

2017 just watched it, i know i must have been hiding when it came out, nah i was dealing with health stuff.

I caught this on netflix last night. I am 65 and well this is one of the best movies i have seen in a long time. It had everything i love. The acting was superb, the singing, the dance routines, the eye candy, i shall never look at another box of cookies in the same way lol.....storyline, it was SUPERB. I gave it a 10. How the hell did it score so low are people mad.

I watched Moulin Rouge and Chicago and to be honest i enjoyed BURLESQUE much more. It was better I think so anyway.

Cher was amazing in it, Christina, wow i had no idea she had lungs that good, and she could act too.

I think a duet would have been way too cheesy.

Oh and the end song BURLESQUE Jack wrote just made it for me.

Anyway i loved it. will watch it again. AWESOME.

I consider myself to be a fairly sophisticated movie fan, one who would probably be expected to look down on "Burlesque". Nope, I like it for all of the reasons the OP gave. This is an old Hollywood style musical.

9/10!!!
