SPOILERS! Discussion of ending!

Spoilers! I actually kinda enjoyed this film, right up until the end. When Joe Pesci suddenly pulls out a gun and shoots the boxer I actually laughed. It's sorta like the filmmakers were like, we got Joe Pesci, we gotta have him shoot somebody!

I swear I was sorta welling up when he's pleading with his wife, and then all of a sudden he becomes Nicky Santoro.

Then the way they show the boxer take the bullet and sorta tople over. It was horrible.

I had a gut feeling something bad was going to happen when Bruza went back to the ranch...but when Charlie shot him I was still shocked! I hated that part because I really wanted Bruza & Grace to go off into the sunset together.

I figured from the time that they fell in love, there would be a violent ending. I was sort of steeling myself for it, but I wish it hadn't happened. The epilogue was a sort of band-aid over it, I thought.

The ending pissed me off so much. Charlie was a coward. A small man in more ways than one. Total bastard.

Helen Mirren's reaction to the shooting gave me chills though. She acted everyone in this movie right off the screen, with the possible exception of the actor who played Bruza. They had great chemistry. Dame Helen has played plenty of roles where she's in relationships with younger men, but this is the first one I really, properly bought as plausible.
