Jax and Mr Mayhem

Why did they go through all the trouble and seemingly heartbreak voting for Mr Mayhem for Jax when they just let him go.

Was it his idea or the rest of Samcro that they should just shoot Happy in the arm then let him ride off?

I cant see why they would do all that if they knew the plan was just for him to ride out the same way as his dad JT did, its not like any other Chapter was there like Indian Hills who called for it that could witness the vote.

If it was so the other chapters didn't find out they let him off then why have the pretence of him "getting caught" to meet Mr Mayhem then say he shot his way out and crashed, they could of just said he rode off and crashed anyway before they had got hold of him.

They were all in on it in a way. But if I remember things correctly, the story they’d tell the other SOA charters is that after Jax hands his president badge over to Chibs, Jax pull a gun on them, shoots Happy, and flees. I think Jax promises Chibs that he’ll either kill himself or try to get out of the country and live a miserable life or something. No one really knew Jax was going to die the way he did either. Not even Jax. If you pay attention to Jax’s facial expression when that semi comes around the corner, he has a “ah-ha” moment and is pretty much saying, “that’s it, that’s how I’m going to kill myself.”

Before seeing the semi, I think Jax’s plan (after he gets the police to chase him) was to keep riding the motorcycle until it ran out of gas and then either pull a gun on himself and kill himself, or pull a gun on the police and trigger them to open fire on him. Maybe not so much the whole thing of getting the police to kill him.

The last two episodes of the show it seems like Jax is preparing to kill himself and has suicidal thoughts. He is doing a bunch of stuff first before he kills himself (getting his kids away from the club life including killing his mom since she’ll just raise them to join the club, getting SOA out of anything illegal, and also taking care of any loose ends or anyone that will blackmail SOA into getting back into guns or drugs or anything illegal).

Also, things played out the way they did because they wanted to have a proper goodbye with Jax. And they probably didn’t want to create a new president badge. And I think Jax needed to properly hand the badge over to Chibs instead of Chibs just saying he was now the club’s president.

I agree with you that Jax knew he was going to kill himself as he was tying up loose ends and handing his children over and paperwork for his possessions etc

I just dont get why they had to act like they was going to kill Jax when they had him in the warehouse, clearly they was all in on it as he shot Happy in the arm after handing Chibs the President badge, no one else was there to witness this other then Samcro so it was purely for our(the viewers) benefit to think they was going to kill him but as for the story line it made no sense.

I wasn't crazy about the last season in general but this specifically annoyed me to no end.

It was meant to give the guys cover politically. There are other chapters and other clubs now and in the future who needed to see they enforced their rules. But yeah, instead of just coming up with a story, they played it out in part for the audience. We know from watching the show that we don't always see the whole plan until it happens, so a twist at the end is expected.

Great analysis!

Indeed. But it had some symbolism: he was the bad guy, he is responsible for the death of many innocent people and the vote means for him that it's time for him to go. It was not necessary, but it added some drama and allowed this amazing ending (to an average at best show).
