Felon vs. Animal Factory? Let's discuss
Okay. I was more interested in Willem Dafoe's and Mickey Rourke's respective portrayals of cons that Stephen's and Val's. I actually cared more about Dafoe's, than Stephen's fate in prison.
shareIn my opinion, this is a knock-out on the first round.
"Felon", while clearly not a masterpiece, had much better production values, acting and direction. The prison and its residents were menacing. The only big mistake was the casting of the main villain (I forget his name), that looked more like Chris Rock than a real bad guy.
"Animal Factory", to me at least, seemed very tame. I expected more from Buscemi. Sometimes, that prison yard looked closer to a school yard. The inmates were pathetically inoffensive and the plot was non-existent.
Animal factory i feel is clearly the better film, for one it's not restricted to only two places in "the shu" (they're sleeping area and the fighting room), the characters were overall brought out better without having to fall into stereotypes which i felt Felon had a lot of. The story was much stronger as well where as Felon felt very weak when it was outside of the prison and i just thought there were scenes which were obviously there for character development and nothing else.
