"they happened on some costumes from another movie, and they actually had the word jail screened on them. because this was supposed to tale place in prison, they altered the word jail to look like some kind of block number."

I don't believe this is at all true.
1) The budget for this movie was almost 3 million dollars...plenty for a few yellow jumpsuits.
2) The alpha-numeric designation of 4A-1L was clearly printed, fresh, and not altered.
3) There was a hyphen between the A and the 1 and the spacing between them was too large for it to have said JAIL...it would have looked like JA IL.
4) At the end of the movie, when the young skinhead who passed the shank to Wade Porter is placed in a new cell, his jumpsuit says 4A-1R.
I do believe the designation was meant to look like the word FAIL. Interestingly, as I mentioned above, when the young skinhead gets tossed in a new cell with an inmate who wants to kill him, his designation says 4A-1R... as in FAIR. I believe this is meant represent that that his doomed fate is just that...FAIR. He's getting what he deserves.
